Transition from WISP to FTTH in UK

Voneus provided broadband service to several UK rural communities using fixed wireless access (FWA) radio technology. This required costly and time-consuming installation of line-of-sight radio transmitters and receivers, often in challenging environments.

As board members and advisors we helped Voneus in three areas:

  • We improved the efficiency of the FWA business with the adoption of new ERP and field resource management tools.

  • We supported Voneus in multiple consolidation M&A allowing them to double their customer base in a year.

  • We pushed for a shift from FWA to FTTH last mile fibre, leveraging UK government grants for rural FTTH

As a direct result, Voneus expanded the business securing additional funding from Macquarie Capital, who took a majority ownership in the business when it raised its investment to £22.5m in 2021. Macquarie Capital is also partnered with the Israel Infrastructure Fund (IIF), creating a further equity injection for the fibre rollout.
